To travel to the UK as a family visitor, you must be able to show that you will be visiting the following family members in the UK:

Generally, applicants get six months to stay in the UK but those applying as academic visitors or parents of children at school in the UK can stay for 12 months at most.
You can apply for an extension of up to the maximum of 6 months if your original application was for less. You can also apply to come to the UK as a domestic worker for up to six months.
There is no right of appeal against the refusal of an application for entry clearance as a Family Visitor and the refusal can only be challenged by way of Judicial Review.
An application for permission to apply for Judicial Review must be lodged within 90 days of the date of the refusal of the application.
