Scouted by Flora Gray, the assistant manager of Deo Volente on LinkedIn, Lina went on a wild 24 hours, as she was called for an interview the next morning. She was offered the Legal Secretary role at the Litigation & Family Department an hour later! She joined Deo Volente Solicitors in the middle of August, and within a small amount of time, she has familiarized herself with all the cases, which allowed things to run smoothly.
Lina Shah was born in the town of Luton. Her childhood was a mix of funny moments, stressful times (being Indian, parents always want you to have received the best result possible), and just full of love and happiness. She had the great opportunity to grow up with both the Gujarati culture and British culture, which she will always carry with her. Her grandparents immigrated to the UK with barely anything and wanting a better life. She saw her family’s struggles and was grateful for the opened opportunities resulting from their hard work and perseverance.
A little contrary to her family’s wish to pursue medicine, her dream job was to be a dancer! Movies like Step Up always made dancing look amazing, but she honestly felt that she does not have the skills to be that incredible.
Upon realising one day that she wanted to become an instrument of hope and make a positive impact in people’s lives during their most difficult times— with this as her creed, she chose the path of becoming a solicitor.
She went to Lealands High School, Harlington Sixth Form, the University of Birmingham for her LLB, and University of Law (Moorgate Campus) for her LPC
The DV Life
Lady Hale has been a significant influence that inspired her. And this is especially true for all female lawyers around the world.
A case that close to her heart involved an army veteran and how significantly his life changed due to him contracting Q Fever. The client was always so positive regardless of what challenges he faced due to him catching Q Fever, and his positivity and view on life was something that I appreciated.
Lina is currently working to improve on trusting her instincts and making stern judgment calls. She is in the process of qualifying as a family solicitor.
A chef in the making
Aside from her love for dancing and the law, Lina immerses herself in reading books as her past time. It widens her perspective, discovers a new world through the pages, and experience leading a different life in every chapter. She also dabbles in the art and science of cooking, and we better keep a lookout as she might be the next Gordon Ramsay in the making!
