Lasting Power of Attorney

Setting up a lasting power of attorney can give you peace of mind that someone will act on your behalf if you become mentally incapacitated to make financial, property, and medical decisions in the future. You can be at ease knowing that someone you trust will manage your affairs
Lasting Power of Attorney in UK

Types of LPA

There are two kinds of LPA.

  • The first type covers decisions about your property and finances
  • The second type covers decisions about your health and welfare.

You can choose to either prepare one or both types. At the same time, you can appoint the same person to be your solicitor for both or have different ones.

Who can make an LPA?

Anyone above 18 and has the mental capacity to do so can make an LPA.
When an individual is mentally incapacitated, they cannot appoint an LPA. By applying for deputyship, the individuals’ family or friends can make certain decisions on their behalf instead.

Benefits of getting an LPA

We can alleviate some of the worry and pressure of administering the estate by providing the following expertise and services:

  • It assures you that if you are unable to make a decision for yourself in the future, your appointed person will decide on your behalf.
  • Making an LPA assures you that the appointed person you want to make decisions for you will be able to do so. This prevents a stranger or anyone you may not trust from having this power.
  • Preparing an LPA today will make things convenient and easier for your family and friends in the future. It will be more expensive, daunting, and time-consuming for them to get the authority to act on your behalf when you don’t prepare it earlier.
  • Preparing an LPA can start agreements with your family or others about what your wishes in the future
